Mumbai, August 31, 2024 - Harbour Line local train services in Mumbai were disrupted this morning due to a broken Overhead Equipment (OHE) between Mankhurd and Vashi railway stations.

To mitigate the impact, the Central Railway Mumbai division announced that passengers could use the Trans Harbour Line with the same tickets and passes during this period of disruption.

We regret to inform you that there is a disruption in services due to a broken Overhead Equipment (OHE) between Mankhurd and Vashi on the Harbour Line,"

stated a post on X from the Central Railway Mumbai division. The post further added, "During this period, passengers can travel via the Trans Harbour Line using the same tickets and passes. This arrangement will be in place until the issue with the OHE is resolved. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Repair teams, including tower wagons equipped to handle overhead wire issues, were dispatched immediately to the affected site. The Central Railway confirmed that the problem was resolved by 9:40 am, restoring regular services on the Harbour Line.

Ongoing Rail Infrastructure Projects in Mumbai

In related news, the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, provided updates on several rail infrastructure projects currently underway in Mumbai.

Among these is the new fifth and sixth rail line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kurla, expected to be completed by the end of next year. This expansion aims to improve local train services by segregating local and mail/express train movements.

Additionally, the sixth rail line between Mumbai Central and Borivali is progressing, with the 8.9 km Khar-Goregaon stretch already completed and commissioned. Work on extending the Harbour Line from Goregaon to Borivali is also in progress, with the goal of easing congestion on the Andheri-Borivali section.

These developments are part of a broader strategy to enhance rail connectivity and alleviate congestion in the Mumbai region, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to improving urban infrastructure.
